We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join the athenahealth Care Collaboration team. At the cutting edge of the healthcare market’s shift towards value-based care, the Care Collaboration sub-division works with an industry leading client base to deliver capabilities to enable patient-centric care, from Population Analytics to Care Management to Behavioral Health. You will provide technical leadership to a team of talented engineers who are transforming healthcare data into actionable insights that empower clinicians, researchers, and administrators to deliver better care.

The Team

The Insight & Measurement team is responsible for unlocking the value of athena’s value-based care (VBC) data for population health. I&M is focused on using scalable data technologies to deliver insights and drive actions across multiple sets of users, including Care Managers, Analysts, and providers. The ideal candidate would lead a team of front-end and full-stack engineers while working closely with Design and Product counterparts to deliver new value-based care analytics experiences. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of diverse engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Architect and implement user-friendly, intuitive, and accessible analytics experiences using modern front-end tooling
  • Collaborate with Design experts to develop and execute org-wide analytics design standards
  • Collaborate inclusively with cross-functional team members to develop product solutions and promote productivity and effectiveness
  • Mentor and advise engineer team members; take ownership of what the team builds and coordinate efforts to ensure proper completion
  • Develop knowledge to act as a domain expert; share business and technical insights with the broader engineering and product organization
  • processing, and transforming large volumes of complex healthcare data
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively with data scientists, analysts, engineers, and business leaders to translate data needs into actionable solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • Ideally, 10+ years of software engineering experience with product development expertise
  • Extensive web application development experience with focus on the frontend (eg. MicroUI architecture, responsive designs)
  • Proficient with .NET and Azure Cloud technologies
  • Ability to write code that is technically sound, performant, scalable, and readable
  • Experience leading teams/technical projects including technical design, scoping and estimation
  • Experience with deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins along with git, bitbucket and other sourcecode repositories preferred
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards and regulations (e.g. HIPAA, HL7)
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, inspiring and motivating others to achieve goals
  • Proven track record of implementing and driving adoption of new data technologies and methodologies

Bonus Points

  • Hands-on experience working with healthcare data, standards, and regulations
  • Any testing framework (e.g. Jest, Cypress) and GraphQL experience would be a bonus
  • Experience embedding external tools, including BI tools, into web applications
  • Experience in building accessible web applications
