We are looking for a Principal Member of Technical Staff to join our Collector team within our Chennai R&D division. Your job will be to work on problems that suit the machine learning/AI space that deals large amounts of data for Collector – Revenue Cycle Management Product. Help us reach our goal of becoming the healthcare backbone by enhancing our cloud-based EHR solution and leveraging the network effect of 100k+ providers. Our Collector R&D teams are building new and exciting revenue cycle services for athenahealth customers. We work on solving complex business problems for a wide range of stakeholders covering everyone from customers, to our internal technology enabled services teams and our multiple BPO vendors. Our work is quite complex and requires the ability to conceptualize and implement workflows that manage large volumes of claim resolution work. This work can be manually completed by our BPO partners or automated to increase overall system productivity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leverage in-depth hands-on experience in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, R, etc.) to develop and maintain high-quality software.
  • Collaborate in Agile-based product development to deliver features efficiently.
  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality software that is secure, performant, scalable, maintainable, and reliable.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in distributed systems, AI/ML, and relevant technologies to identify opportunities for ML/AI based improvements.
  • Develop Proof-of-Concept (POC) projects using large datasets and industry-available AI/ML solutions to evaluate feasibility and effectiveness.
  • Work effectively with large datasets, leveraging tools like scikit-learn and AWS Bedrock, to extract insights and drive data-driven decision making.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to multiple engineering teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards.
  • Document and articulate the completed POCs and collaborate with teams to develop architecture/design based on the findings.

Typical Qualifications

  • 12-15 years of experience in an engineering role is required.
  • Self-driven with the ability to persevere through complex problems is essential. The candidate should be proactive in reaching out to teams to understand problems and evaluate various market-available ML models. Strong proficiency in Python and SQL is crucial for data manipulation and analysis in this role.
  • Knowledge of or experience with big data analytics techniques (data warehousing - Snowflake, data mining - Looker) is a plus.
  • Experience working with AI/ML models (e.g., scikit-learn, AWS Bedrock ) or large language models (LLMs like ChatGPT) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with development methodologies like Agile, API-first, and event-driven is preferred.
  • Experience working on high-volume, large datasets is highly desirable. In-depth experience working with and manipulating large datasets using Python and SQL is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more programming languages (Java, Python, R) is expected, with a strong preference for Python.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux, SQL, NoSQL, and various other technologies is required.
  • Experience architecting/developing in AWS and using version control management (Git) is expected.
  • A strong understanding of relational database technologies, distributed computing technologies, and RESTful APIs is required.
