Are you passionate about solving problems through technology? As an experienced tech professional, you’ll be implementing effective cost financial management procedures to improved technology services and cloud efficiency.
As a FinOps engineer, you’ll be a member of the (ACE) Athena Cloud Efficiency team responsible for enabling and integrating cloud cost management across various cloud platforms and 3rd party tools, help us to solve the traditional financial management challenges with new and innovative practices. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in DevOps practices, cloud computing, automation, and a passion for driving efficiency in software delivery.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
· Identify and implement optimization procedures to reduce costs and improve financial efficiency. This may involve analyzing usage patterns, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and making recommendations for cost reduction initiatives.
· Responsible for activities like selecting appropriate resource locations, rightsizing (the process of resizing cloud resources to better match the workload usage), workload management (only running resources when they are needed), removing unused resources, and monitoring for spending anomalies.
· Drive cost savings through identifying, purchasing and extending reserved instances or savings plans and exchanging reserved instances on a regular basis.
· Identify opportunities to use cloud services more efficiently, such as resizing instances, idle resources or using SPOT instances.
· Monitor cloud usage, subscription costs, and find ways to optimize spending.
· Troubleshoot issues and perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems promptly.
· Implement and enforce governance policies for FinOps
· Design and develop automation, alerting, and remediation of cost inefficiencies and overprovisioned resources.
· Drive accountability to engineering teams that are responsible for the application/services.
· Provide guidance to engineering teams to have a cost-effective application/service by identifying anomalies and best practices.
· Work together with engineering teams to identify rate reductions and possible cost avoidance.
Typical Qualifications:
· 4+ years of relevant experience in Cloud FinOps/Cloud Spend optimization.
· Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
· Experience with tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager.
· Experience with cloud cost management and optimization tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or Google Cloud's Cost Management tools.
· Experience in with tagging guidelines to ensure appropriate categorization of cloud shared costs.
· Experience in assisting with implementing cloud governance policies and cost savings approaches.
· Experience in developing cost allocation models for shared services.
· Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations.
· Ability to operate successfully in a lean, agile, and fast-paced organization.
· Cloud FinOps Certification is highly recommended
· Cloud AWS or Azure Engineering Certification
Education & Experience Required:
· Bachelor’s degree (master's degree preferred).
· 5-6 years of experience computer science, engineering, information technology or an alternate combination.
· Experience in an Agile environment.
Knowledge & Skills:
· Strong understanding of DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
· Experience with compute, storage Kubernetes and database performance optimization.
· Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, Azure Cost Management, AWS Quicksight.
· Experience with SaaS technologies, costing models and cloud costing products (Apptio, Power BI, Tableau, CloudHealth, Cloudcheckr, Data Lake, APIs, etc.)
· Excellent technical documentation skills.
