Position Summary: We are looking for an Engineering Manager - EM to join the Data and Ecosystems division in Bangalore. The division is primarily responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining the core foundational components that are required by other application teams within athenahealth to successfully build their products. As a key member of the Data Services zone, you will help build services and systems to drive new and existing workflows.

As an Engineering Manager, you are responsible for leading one or more scrum teams. You partner with Product Management to drive the success and evolution of our product roadmap.

The Team: The team is part of the Data Services zone and is critical to building out athena’s Value Based Care (VBC) Ecosystem. The team is responsible for building a highly scalable data ingestion platform and persistent layer for healthcare data that will expand athena’s VBC workflows.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide managerial oversight for scrum team to deliver products, considering both individual performance and team goals and ensuring alignment with the overall product line objectives.
  • Develop your team to grow them as engineers and as people.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of product architecture and provide “connective tissue”: manage and negotiate dependencies; ensure delivery of quality releases in partnership with product management and other engineering teams; provide on-call and other necessary customer support.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and high performance within the engineering team.
  • Develop and implement processes to optimize engineering workflows and efficiency.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent.
  • People and Performance management.
  • Manage engineering budgets and resources effectively.

Typical Qualifications

  • Minimum 9+ years of experience as a hands-on software developer.
  • 3+ years' experience leading or mentoring others in a technical environment.
  • Strong Agile experience and strong technical background in software development, maintenance and production support.
  • Record of success in delivering results, balancing priorities to ensure delivery, demonstrating excellence in leading teams and in liaison to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience in on-prem, distributed systems, cloud-based architectures, and highly available systems. Experience with Amazon AWS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as: Java Spring Boot and/or other Object-Oriented languages (C#, C++), React, JavaScript/Typescript.
  • Track record of growing your engineers and teams.
