The Threat Research and Threat Operations teams within Bitsight’s Security Research department develop and deploy tactics and strategies to discover endpoint systems compromised by malware and potentially unwanted applications through in-depth research and analysis of malware families and infrastructure. This management position will be responsible for the development and operation of one of the world's largest malware infection tracking systems and the production of Bitsight’s compromised system and riskware data feeds which are critical to the assessment of organizational risk profiles. The role will lead a team of threat researchers and threat operations engineers tasked with developing creative telemetry collection solutions against target malware families as well as techniques to automate the opportunistic acquisition of telemetry from a broad range of security threats.

Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Establish team priorities for research and development of new victim intelligence collection and analysis capabilities

  • Own and operate Bitsight’s internal platforms for malware and riskware tracking

  • Develop, drive, and own processes for quality assurance of malware tracking data feeds and processes

  • Recruit, train, and develop an international team of threat researchers of diverse backgrounds and skill sets

  • Collaborate with the product and engineering organizations to align capability development roadmaps and complete technology transfer of threat research prototypes into production environments

  • Decompose long-term strategic business challenges into technical research plans

Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in modern malware infrastructure and operation

  • Familiarity with detection engineering and malware reverse engineering techniques

  • Hands-on experience with malware tracking techniques such as sinkholing

  • Demonstrated experience in security research people management

  • Strong communication and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems

  • Proficient in standard scripting languages

Education

B.S. in Computer Science or similar field or commensurate experience.
