DESCRIPTION

Amazon Devices Optimization Services is looking for an experienced senior software engineer to make architectural decisions and guide project teams to deliver innovative software solutions. Amazon Devices supply chain presents complex challenges driven by a diverse product portfolio (includes Alexa, kindle, ereader, Ring, Blink etc.). Our software impact and influence is large and wide as our supply chain systems manage billions of dollars of allocation decisions across thousands of distribution points globally. Apply machine learning and optimization algorithms to deliver financially driven, decision quality information that enables maximized business goals.
Joining our team provides the unique challenge and opportunity to build software systems that directly impact the supply, demand and sales of all Amazon devices around the globe. The ideal candidate will have a track record of leading software development, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and a passion for creating reliable and maintainable systems. The candidate should be open to new challenges and be data driven. The candidate should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with aggressive cross-functional business, science and software development teams to solve problems and implement new solutions.

Key job responsibilities
You are considered a technical leader on your team. You take ownership of team architecture, providing a system-wide view and design guidance. You work efficiently and routinely deliver the right things with limited guidance. Your work focuses on complex, ambiguous problem areas in existing or new software initiatives. You consider where each system is at in its lifecycle and where appropriate, proactively fix architecture deficiencies. You make existing systems simpler by consolidating redundant systems, deleting unnecessary code, while maintaining documentation. You are able to lead large projects that require the work of your team. You divide a software project into parallel work that can be delegated and then reassembled into a cohesive launch.
You drive mindful discussions with customers and peers. You bring perspective and provide context for current and future technology choices, engineering best practices and standards. You work to resolve the root cause of endemic problems.
You actively recruit and help others leverage your expertise, by coaching and mentoring in your organization. You contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and the engineering practices. You ensure your team is stronger because of your presence, but does not require your presence to be successful.
