Role overview

CarGurus is seeking a Senior Analyst to join our Business Analytics & Reporting team. This team leads the analytical processes behind reporting, forecasting, and financial modeling, enabling day-to-day and strategic decisions. The Senior Analyst demonstrates an innate curiosity in uncovering how subtle nuances or decisions can significantly impact our data storytelling. They are a logical thinker excelling in complex problem-solving and are proficient in synthesizing insights from various data sources into clear, logical, and actionable proposals. This role offers opportunities for significant positive impact through a high level of autonomy. You will collaborate with multiple departments, gaining exposure to various dimensions of the business, and serve as a thought leader for a diverse range of stakeholders, including our senior leadership team. You will also contribute to fostering technical and professional mentorship among the team, supporting the growth of all members.

What you'll do

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis across diverse data sources to comprehend the performance of our business strategy and identify potential business opportunities/risks for mitigation.

  • Serve as an advisor to decision-makers, translating business questions into hypothesis-driven data analysis, and communicating tresults through visualizations and presentations.

  • Collaborater, share, and present data findings with stakeholders and our teams.

  • Work collaboratively across departments, using data to identify, validate, and recommend ideas for improving growth performance; define metrics to evaluate business performance and experiments; build reports and dashboards to monitor and comprehend them.

  • Advocate for and champion the use of data to enhance the quality of decision-making processes.

  • Mentor other analysts in their technical and professional development.

What you'll bring

  • A bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in computer science, mathematics, statistics, analytics, economics, or equivalent demonstrated analytical work experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in analysis and reporting, including proficiency in data visualization and related tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, PowerBI), influencing business decisions.

  • Ability to influence multiple partners towards adopting new data-driven approaches and achieving shared business goals.

  • Capability to use hypothesis-driven analysis to directly address business questions.

  • Expertise in SQL and Excel.

  • Proficiency in data modeling and data movement/ETL concepts.

  • Thrives in ambiguous data scenarios, deriving the best possible insights.

  • Prior experience in SAAS/B2B related businesses is valued.
