This is a remote, US-based role. This is a heavily customer-facing role.

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), your primary goals will be to provide exceptional value to our clients working across our managed and professional services offerings.

1. Job Description
Fairwinds is seeking an intellectually curious, collaborative, enthusiastic, and flexible engineer to join our team as a Site Reliability Engineer.

As an SRE at Fairwinds, you’ll work directly with clients to ensure their goals are met through automation, analysis, and infrastructure configuration. Working collaboratively with the other SREs at Fairwinds, your expertise will help our clients succeed with Kubernetes through building robust infrastructure, solving complex problems, maintaining reliable, secure environments, and standing behind our work as a part of our on-call rotation.

We work with a diverse set of technologies in and around Kubernetes depending on what our clients need. Commonly this includes technologies like:

  • AWS/GCP/Azure (e.g. Instances, DNS, IAM, cloud networking)
  • Kubernetes Ingress/CNI/Service Meshes/Network Policy
  • Helm, Terraform, Docker
  • Datadog, OpenMetrics, and statsd
  • Fairwinds Insights, rbac-manager, and Falco
  • CircleCI, Jenkins, and Gitlab for CI/CD
  • Go, Python, and bash

2. About you...
You have experience working with Kubernetes in a production environment — deploying with helm, debugging tough networking problems, optimizing for scale, updating and upgrading to match best practices for security and efficiency.

  • You have experience working in one or more of the major cloud providers: AWS, GCP, Azure.
  • You are comfortable working directly with external clients to understand fluid requirements and unique use cases.
  • You’re a self-motivated and directed individual contributor who is excited about being part of a growing startup.
  • You’re interested in Kubernetes and cloud-native technology and have an eagerness to learn and an aptitude for sharing your knowledge with others.
  • You know your stuff and are a creative problem solver. You can think your way through complex issues, have a keen eye for details, and possess strong analytical and research skills – you know how to find answers, and you know when to ask for help.
  • You've probably worked in an agency, or a consulting-type role, or even at Starbucks at some point in your career - somewhere that you had multiple unrelated customers looking for your attention instead of your internal "customers" being behind your core shared mission.
  • You’re organized, communicative, and accountable—you enjoy being on a team and you own your role entirely, while being open to critique, suggestions, and new ideas.

You have to have at least 1 year of production K8s experience to be successful in this role, but if you don't have deep experience in all of the other pieces listed above, we'd still love to chat with you! We know that not everyone has every box checked - don't be shy, let's see if there's a fit for us to be successful together.
