Calling all Visionary Artists: Formlabs Artist Residency

Formlabs is thrilled to announce an extraordinary opportunity for arts professionals working within the mediums of Digital Fabrication or Technology. Our Artist Residency Program aims to place a working artist within our state-of-the-art R&D Machine Shop working among scientists, engineers, and creators. We welcome talented individuals with a passion for pushing the boundaries of art and technology to join us for a three-month residency, where they will be encouraged to complete a project that has a cascading impact on the field of 3D printing, Digital Fabrication, or New Media.

At Formlabs, we are dedicated to revolutionizing industries through accessible digital fabrication tools. Our commitment to creativity and technological advancement is what opened the door for us to collaborate with artists, exploring new possibilities at the intersection of art and technology.

The Artist Residency:

Duration: 3 months (exact start and end dates will be provided upon acceptance).

Location: Formlabs headquarters in Somerville, MA.

Facilities: The residency will be based out of our state-of-the-art R&D prototyping machine shop. Equipment access includes vertical milling centers, lathes, laser cutter, waterjet, welders, furnaces, etc.

Opportunity Highlights:

Accommodation & Studio Space: As a resident, you will be provided with access to a modest studio space, machine shop access, and manufacturing experts to assist you with your project.

Stipend & Project Budget: To support your artistic endeavors, a stipend will be provided. Additionally, a project budget is available for materials and other project-related expenses.

Public Engagement: Showcase your work to other professionals and audiences during small-scale public events in Somerville, and broader marketing and media posting on our social media channels.

Application Guidelines:

To apply for this exclusive residency, please submit the following:

Portfolio: Present a selection of your previous works, highlighting your expertise in Digital Fabrication or Media Arts. (3-6 slides in high quality digital format.)

Motivation Letter: Include a brief letter outlining your artistic vision and how the residency aligns with your creative goals.

CV: Share your professional background, accomplishments, and any relevant degrees or certifications.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

All professional artists working with 3D printing, Digital Fabrication, Media Arts, and related fields are welcome to apply.

Selection is based on the originality and quality of your artistic practice, your application material, and your motivation letter.
