The Opportunity

The successful candidate will exhibit strong analytical and communication skills in all aspects of this role ranging from developing effective tools and analysis, presenting to management, and interacting with internal and external stakeholders. This role will help lead and support the development of sound projection methodologies and assumptions, efficient processes, and robust modeling capabilities to effectively deliver timely and insightful results.  In addition, this individual will be proactive in driving continuous improvement of our projection capabilities and executing on projects effectively.

The Team

The Consolidated Reporting and Projections Team is a newly formed team within the Valuation group. The team is responsible for providing liability projections which will be used by various departments within MassMutual in the development of business plans, risk analysis and other financial analysis. As this is a newly formed team, the team will need to build strong relationships with its key stakeholders and will be in a position to drive new approaches to how financial projections are developed and used. Members of the team will have the unique perspective of analyzing current financials as well as implications on future results.

Quarterly Forecasting and Analysis: Produce quality and timely liability projection results and provide business insights in support of the company’s Forecast and Plan

  • Deliver quarterly production and reporting process of US Statutory and GAAP reserve projections and other actuarial items impacting the Forecast income statement and balance sheet
  • Perform analysis of projections under baseline and sensitivity scenarios, develop insights, and help communicate results
  • Ensure effective application of projections model governance framework, including process efficiency, control effectiveness, actuarial assumption/model change management, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of vision and roadmap to effectively implement enhanced forecasting capabilities and streamline production processes
  • Develop attribution analytics and deliver business insights to stakeholders, including timely responses to management inquiries
  • Implement new requirements into liability projections process, including the adoption of new accounting standards like GAAP LDTI as needed

Trusted Business Partner: Collaborate effectively and provide solutions for business partners

  • Prepare and effectively communicate financial information to various customers, demonstrating strong understanding of the drivers of the results
  • Collaborate closely with product valuation leaders to leverage core valuation models and to modify/enhance models for use in liability projections
  • Partner closely with FP&A team to ensure effective implementation of liability projections output into company Forecast model
  • Establish strong relationships and trust with all stakeholders

Projections Methodology, Data and Model Management: Interpret, develop and implement projection methodologies, ensure appropriate usage of input and output data, as well as model management

  • Perform analysis and implementation of projections issues, providing financial impact analysis and recommendations for action
  • Apply knowledge of insurance products, inforce business, and financial risk drivers in developing practical and reasonable solutions to address projection issues, including model limitations
  • Work with ERM and various audit stakeholders to demonstrate compliance with model governance standards
  • Work with modeling to team in the development, analysis, and enhancement of projection models.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • ASA or FSA Designation
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience in valuation, financial planning, CFT/ALM projections, and/or in pricing; 3+ years of exposure to financial statements under US Statutory and GAAP reporting

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and “Compliant” with regards to SOA CPD Attestation Status
  • Strong technical and leadership skills with proven experience in financial modeling/reporting processes and communicating results
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Working knowledge of valuation and/or modeling techniques
  • Working knowledge of US insurance products
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups
  • We are seeking someone with strong technical and leadership skills with proven experience in financial modeling/reporting processes and communicating results
  • Ability with working effectively through change and driving continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups and to proactively resolve issues
  • Knowledge of life, annuity, and health products, financial statements, and modeling methodologies and software (Moody’s AXIS, Prophet, etc.)
  • Experience with US Cash Flow Testing and/or similar actuarial projection exercises

Salary Range: $131,100.00-$172,000.00 Apply
