State and Local Tax Analyst

The Impact

  • State Tax Compliance
    • Responsible for the preparation, and processing of the annual premium tax filings and associated compliance
    • Responsible for municipal tax filings
    • Ensure accuracy of and compliance with tax calendar and internal controls
    • Responsible for the review preparation of internal and external statutory financial reporting associated with state and local tax
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state tax developments
    • Provide information and support to business areas
    • Advise on non-routine transactions impacting state filings, including acquisitions and dispositions
    • Assist with state and local tax audits
    • Prepare, review and approve journal entries
    • Review internal and external statutory and GAAP financial reporting associated with the Tax, Licenses & Fees tax accruals
    • Prepare General Ledger Reconciliations
    • Review and respond to inquiries from state tax authorities
  • Assist with state legislative and regulatory initiatives
    • Assist State Government Relations and internal SALT attorney on legislative and regulatory matters
    • Incorporate changes in law to process and procedures
  • Guaranty Fund compliance
  • Develop a strong working relationship with internal and external clients, including vendor relationships

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 1+ years state tax experience

The Ideal Qualifications

  • CPA or MST highly desirable (or in-progress plans to obtain either
  • 2+ years of corporate state income tax experience
  • Experience in the insurance industry highly preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience related to state and local taxation a plus
  • Strong computer skills, including tax compliance software, GL systems and research software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary Range:

$67,400.00-$88,400.00
