Job Description Summary:

The Senior Systems Programmer at Rocket Software is part of a global, fast-paced IT organization with a primary mission to provide world class service to software development labs and internal departments ensuring our employees have access to perform at the highest level. The Senior Systems Programmer will maintain a multiple-CPU IBM ZOS complex environment and be responsible for installing, customizing, monitoring, and maintaining IBM mainframe products and installed software to industry standard best practices and security guidelines. You will collaborate with members of the team, set direction as a technical lead, influence decisions, design technical solutions and lead the team in the completion of that solution. At times you will be called on to mentor junior team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configure, test and support IBM and ISV ZOS system and program products.
  • Conduct problem determination followed by root cause analysis.
  • Provide first line of support (scheduled on-call) for the z environment.
  • Maintain thorough records by documenting system revisions and changes.
  • Maintain strict control of system and monitor program usage.
  • Evaluate new software and hardware features.
  • Frequently update knowledge base by establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Participate in IBM and ISV beta projects.
  • Acts as a mentor to the Associate Systems Programmer and other team members.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience and Subject Matter Expertise for core z/OS functions, architecture and IBM Utilities.
  • Expert knowledge with installing and maintaining MF community of products.
  • Expert knowledge in problem analysis and systems debugging utilizing z platform tools such as RMF, SMF, SYSLOGSs etc., and recommend improved business and development solutions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong documentation experience.
  • Ability to focus on producing high-quality work.
  • Automate various functions and processes.
  • Good communication and organizational skills, team player.
  • Ability to handle significant workload with managing variety of concurrent projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to work across teams

Education:

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related experience

Travel Requirements: Minimal, <5%
