Shell Energy Europe and Environmental Products (SE-EE) supplies and trades natural Gas and Power across Europe and Africa centred in London, with representation across the markets we trade. We also manage Shell’s Environmental Products supply and trading business globally based in the key global trading markets. Gas Origination Team

The Origination Team covers all European gas markets, working in close partnership with the Trading desks to identify, negotiate, and execute structured gas transactions, physical/virtual transport and storage positions, LNG regasification capacities and supply agreements. The Team is also responsible for originating tailored Upstream off-take deals, and help the Trading desk optimize the regional portfolios.

What’s the role?

The Senior Originator (Business Development Manager) is part of the Gas Origination South & East regional team, and is responsible for originating and leading the execution of new structured positions with counterparties in the South and East Europe gas markets, looking at long and short term opportunities to grow Shell Energy’s gas portfolio in the region. Key focus growth areas for the regional team are portfolio building in Southern Europe (Italy and Spain), Eastern Europe, South-eastern Europe and North Africa. The annual target for the team is >$100m.

The role is an exciting deal making opportunity and offers work in an, experienced and highly driven commercial team, with strong focus on delivering value for Shell. The Senior Originator will be responsible for representing Shell Energy Europe in the South & East European gas markets, with the opportunity to also work with the rest of the team on a wide range of transactions, including new market entries, new structured supplies, infrastructure deals, options etc.

The primary accountabilities of the Senior Originator are:

  • Develop a healthy deal funnel in the regional and focus on efficient deal execution.

  • Lead negotiations with external counterparties and work with highly experienced multicultural project teams.

  • Collaborate with other Originators to ensure consistency in the deal funnel, with opportunity for learning across regional focus.

  • Ensure alignment with management and Trading desks on deal funnel focus and help develop a strategic view for the growth of the regional portfolio.

  • Maintain and develop close relationships with counterparties in the region.

  • Work closely with the regulatory team, understanding the framework as translating opportunities/risks for the business and counterparties.

  • Work effectively with other Originators including across other products like Power, EPTB.

This role will be based in London and will report to the Team Lead Gas Origination SE within SE-EA.

What we need from you

  • Experience in gas business development / gas origination / gas contract negotiations.

  • Commercial acumen backed by in-depth industry knowledge of the markets in the region.

  • Proven track record of commercial deal making from deal identification through to delivery.

  • Experience in supporting or leading multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural deal teams / project teams.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to manage a wide range of different relationships at all levels, including government, internal and external senior management.

  • Ability to understand, structure and explain highly complex deal structures / strong understanding of trading value drivers and ability to challenge.

  • Strong understanding of deal economics with the ability to commission detailed analysis by Deal Structuring and engage in discussion on quantitative insights.

  • Effectiveness in business case preparation, presentation, and discussion with senior management.

  • Knowledge of price- and volume risk management techniques (e.g. hedging; options etc).

  • Fluency in English and either Italian or Spanish are a must, French, German, Russian or any other language in the region are a plus.
