Job Description:

As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing Shell and the wider energy industry in the coming decades is considerable. Employee and Industrial Relations (ER/IR) teams have an important role in building a great place to work for our people and enabling them to be their best. As an Employee & Industrial Relations Advisor, you will proactively manage and enable a thriving ER/IR environment in country through using data and insights to proactively identify emerging trends and define mitigations for potential future risks. Another key function of this role is to provide support on matters relating to collective bargaining agreements and individual employee relations.

Shell Canada HR supports a hybrid work model, where team members can work from both home and the office based on business need. While the preferred location for this position is at our head office in Calgary, this position may also be located near our Scotford site in Ft. Saskatchewan.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage high-impact or high-risk individual or collective disciplinary, grievance or other ER challenges through leading local consultation processes and defining requirements

  • Review and manage external risks and ensure compliance with external legislative requirements

  • Identify weak signals that provide early indication of organizational cultural or behavioral issues, and recommend appropriate interventions

  • Coach stakeholders such as HR colleagues and Line Managers in effective employee and industrial relations management

  • Run proactive interventions aimed at improving quality of leadership/ employee engagement through line managers

  • Develop and execute specific culture and work environment programs or training initiatives

  • Display passion to create an equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and can thrive

  • Develop and leverage Union-Management relations

  • Lead and/or support with collective bargaining negotiations through strategy setting and effectively partnering with external and internal stakeholders

  • Prevent and manage industrial actions while keeping abreast of effective IR strategies, as well as external news and legislative developments

  • Provide support for local crisis management activities in collaboration with key stakeholders

  • Lead complex HR investigations, Global Helpline complaints and grievances

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer

  • 5 + years of experience in employment or labour relations or a generalist related capacity

  • Ability to manage complex ER/IR cases with empathy and employee centricity while maintaining a balanced understanding of local labour laws and practices

  • Demonstrated skill in understanding and applying local Employee and Industrial Relations legislation, practices, and processes

  • Strong coaching and influencing skills to be able to effectively manage a broad range of both external and internal stakeholders
