Turnaround Event Manager has the primary responsibility of ensuring turnarounds work is executed safely, effectively, and efficiently. The Event Manager is responsible for the field execution of the assigned turnaround and for ensuring that all resources (tools, equipment, outside resources, leveraged resources, etc.) are available to complete the turnaround on time. This individual provides corrective action and alternatives for schedule and cost deviations. The Event Manager will work with the core turnaround team(s) and has responsibility of overseeing all phases of their assigned turnarounds (planning, pre-work, shutdown, and post-work). The role will also include managing contractors, vendors and ensuring capital project integration. We would expect the incumbent to have a demonstrable track record of safe, timely, on budget delivery where all scope has been delivered.

A working relationship with the Health and Safety Executive would be an advantage and as would an industry network across the North Sea Operators and Contractor companies.

What’s the role?

The Turnaround Event Manager oversees SUKEP (Shell UK Exploration and Production) Turnarounds and would be expected to be accountable for delivery on any one of our offshore facilities. They will have responsibility, accountability, and authority for planning, coordinating and execution of very high complexity Maintenance Turnaround events to sustain, improve and restore the Technical Integrity and Reliability / Availability of those facilities.

This includes developing the budgets, staffing plans, schedules and durations of all Turnarounds as well as implementing an overall Turnaround Safety Planning process for the event. The incumbent will work closely with the Work Preparer, Planner, Turnaround Coordinator, Project Manager, Field Superintendent, Shell Operations and Discipline Engineering focal points to assure safe and effective execution of the agreed Turnaround scopes as per the agreed budget and schedule, in accordance with the best practices and HSSE standards. One of the key priorities will be to minimise Turnaround deferment while safeguarding technical integrity. Responsibilities for preparation and the execution of the Turnaround event imply working closely with the Asset Manager, Facility Manager, Project Delivery Manager and HSE Manager. The scope of role includes all aspects of Turnaround Planning and performance, including strategic planning, shutdown, decommissioning, maintenance, project execution, commissioning, and restart. It will also focus on learning and implementing lessons learned to improve performance in future years. Report functionally to the Regional Turnaround Lead and is a member of the Global Turnaround network.

Your role will include:

  • Integration of Project and Asset scope
  • Lead the execution of the Turnaround with key Contractor Partner
  • Incorporate best practices and learnings from previous events
  • Development of the staffing plan to plan and execute the assigned Turnaround
  • Ensure all scope is captured: maintenance, local and major capital projects, Turnaround projects, and other program work (Corrosion under insulation, planned maintenance and inspection, etc.), are integrated into a single schedule for execution
  • Develop the Turnaround Milestone schedule including all optimization actions assurance reviews, schedule optimization shops, peer reviews, etc
  • Ensure the Turnaround Milestones are met with high quality deliverables
  • Ensure that the Turnaround schedule is integrated seamlessly with all activities – feed out to on spec, including shutdown, decontamination, execution, commissioning, and start up
  • Ensure that all operational activities are executed included system level planning, consistent with the “Flawless” concepts
  • Ensure that the Turnaround is planned and executed in compliance with safety and environ‐mental standards and regulations
  • Ensure compliance to all appropriate work processes (Turnaround, Management of change, Maintenance Execution, etc.)
  • Ensures that pre-Turnaround work is completed on schedule
  • After action reviews and lessons learned are captured, documented, and fed back into the process to ensure continued learning

What we need from you

  • A proven track record in successfully managing turnaround events in offshore environments, showcasing a strong understanding of industry best practices
  • Adept at integrating safety considerations into every aspect of planning and execution, with a record of fostering a culture of safety
  • Relative experience in contract negotiation, management, and procurement with industrial settings.
  • To demonstrate exceptional leadership skills to guide and motivate cross-functional teams
  • To display unwavering resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Capacity to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions to enhance future turnaround events
