Job Description:

Where you fit in

Shell has a passionate commitment to doing things differently. We tackle complexity through a unique, innovative approach that balances human-centred design with an agile technology capability. With a huge variety of potential projects and digital and non-digital products to build across businesses and geographies, this is a design role where you can expect to be challenged to think and do differently. Getting involved at every stage, from discovery and design, executing and optimising, at scale.

You’ll work as part of a global team in the IDT (Information & Digital Technology) organisation as part of Shell Energy Trading. Working collaboratively with product teams, users and business stakeholders, you’ll deliver high-quality solutions which deliver value by solving key problems and simplifying complexity. By joining us you’ll also be joining a global community of designers across Shell’s Trading & Supply business, where we gather to discuss all things design; from design systems and patterns to peer design and critiques.

What’s the role?

We’re looking for an empathetic product designer who thinks holistically to solve complex business problems. You’ll support the Shell Energy business, defining and creating solutions for internal B2B applications. The complexities are both broad and deep, so the ability to solve intricate business problems is critical.

You’ll drive the end-to-end design process through discovery, definition, ideation and delivery. Working closely with users and stakeholders, you’ll gather insights, validate ideas and assumptions and support prioritisation where necessary. You’ll leverage insights to generate concepts, develop prototypes and test them with users, and collaborate with developers to convey designs effectively and ensure they are correctly implemented.

You'll also be responsible for ownership of the product; liaising with users and the business, running demos, determining priorities and directing the team accordingly.

What we need from you
We are keen to hear from the candidates with below skill set:

  • Senior designer with a strong background in designing for data-heavy B2B applications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human-centred design or similar field of study

  • Strategic approach to problem-solving and ability to think beyond the screen

  • Ability to work across the product lifecycle, from research and user insights through to validation, ideation, testing and delivery

  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of case studies that demonstrate your abilities throughout the entire the design process

  • High degree of professional competency with Figma, and ability to work with design system components and patterns

  • Solid understanding of usability and accessibility standards including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ISO 9241

  • Able to take responsibility for tasks, drive progress and see them through

  • Experience in facilitation of design workshops with a variety of users and stakeholders, such as problem framing, jobs to be done, card sorting, etc.

  • Experience planning and conducting user research, usability testing, surfacing insights and leveraging these in future iterations

  • Produce wireframes, UX flows, customer journey maps, interactions and low and high-fidelity prototypes

  • Start-up mentality with experience of practical execution in an agile environment

  • Able to work constructively with stakeholders and business analysts to clarify business problems

  • Pragmatic and adaptable; able to be considerate of business requirements and reconcile these with user needs

  • Demonstrable analytical skills and ability to learn, comprehend and improve intricate business processes

  • Able to communicate designs effectively to developers and to the wider team and write design acceptance criteria

  • Working experience in a business environment is preferable

  • Working experience in the energy trading business is desirable

  • Experience on both the agency and client side is ideal
