Job Overview

For this position, we are looking for Machinists who have less than 5 years of relevant experience and/or are recent graduates of AAS (or related) programs/certifications or someone with relevant military experience to participate in the Norco Hourly Craft Development Program.

This Machinist role will be responsible for machining parts to specification using tools such as lathes, Knee Mills, Radial Arm Drill press, Surface Grinders, Key Seater, Lapping Machine, Horizontal and Vertical Boring Mills and Balancing Machine.

What does this role require?

  • Familiarization with shaft straightening

  • Perform assembly of bolted flange connections on piping & field equipment

  • Diagnose and apply results utilizing laser alignment tools for power driven equipment

  • Perform basic crane lifts as operator/rigger/signal person

  • The assembly/disassembly of mechanical equipment such as: Turbines, Pumps, Gearboxes, Electric Motors, Fin Fans, Centrifugal Compressors, Reciprocating Compressors, etc.

  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as Micrometers and Vernier calipers

  • Measuring, examining and testing completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers

  • Studying sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances

  • Selecting the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work

  • Installing repaired parts into equipment, or install new equipment

  • Cleaning and lubricating machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter

  • Clearing communications with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information

  • Dismantling machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed

  • The assembly and fitting of parts to make or repair machine tools

  • Preparing working sketches for the illustration of product appearance

  • Ability to keep a work space that is clutter free & clean including work tables, benches, and floor

What skills, abilities and experiences are we looking for?

  • An AAS and/or related certification in the Machinist (or related) craft OR relevant military experience.

  • Demonstrated awareness of metalworking, heat-treating and cutting equipment

  • Flexibility to occasionally work nights to support plant activities

  • Ability to work extended hours, holidays, weekends as required

  • Willing to make call-outs after hours and weekends to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and customers.

  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States

  • Willingness to take and achieve satisfactory results on Shell’s pre-employment testing battery
