Trade Compliance Specialist

A key responsibility of this high visibility role is to help perform the HS code classification and determine tariff rate to ensure the business to achieve the cross-border deliveries with compliance and reasonable duty Close collaboration with Global Trade Compliance, Engineers, Logistics, Customer Service, Sourcing is required to successfully enable compliance.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Serve as Global Classification team member to interact with engineers and project management team on collecting HS classification attributes for determination.
- Under the leadership of Global Classification Manager, deploy the global HS code classification and review process for all Sensata legal entities and drive the implementation in relevant functions.
- Maintain the Global HS master database with import duty rate, assign and maintain the HS Code by individual entities and by country in ERP.
- In response to Customs challenges on HS code and support logistics, procurement, and other relevant teams in resolving HS codes issues with Customs, in close cooperation with regional trade compliance team.
- Monitor Tariff code related rulings update in operating countries and work out the impact to business.
- Deploy trainings linked to HS code classification and helps in the preparation of training materials and keeping records of the participation.
- Assist Classification Manager to conduct internal reviews to identify HS classification risks. Develop corrective action plans based on findings and follow up corrective actions through until complete.
Key Competencies:
- Sound knowledge of the HS General Rules of classification and experience with assigning and maintaining tariff codes in ERP system
- Experience of HS code audit and disputes management and defense with Customs challenges
- Knowledge of consulting specific HS code by country, especially US, Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Bulgaria and EU etc.
- Knowledge of Country of Origin and Free Trade Agreements. ECCN classification is a plus.
- Engineering background and ability to interpret technical drawings is a plus.
- A team player with ability to work independently
- Confident, ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
- Business focused, highly detail oriented/analytical, and adaptive to change
- Works well under pressure and with the ability to set priorities, drives actions until complete, quality oriented approach of work
- Experience in multinational company or Customs broker is a plus
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- ERP, especially Oracle user experience is a plus
Job Qualifications:
- Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, licensed customs broker or equivalent qualification
- 2-3 years or more of HS classification background in a fast-paced industry or Customs Broker
