Where you fit In

The Power Fundamentals Team is part of Shell VP Strategic Insights and Scenarios (SXB). The role of the Team is to provide a long-term view of the fundamentals of power markets in order to guide commercial and strategic decisions in Shell. The team is contributing to the growth of the power business in Shell, which is expected to become more important as the company decarbonizes.

What’s the role?

As a member of the Power Fundamentals team, you will focus on analysis and support of business opportunities and Strategy development.

This involves the following activities:

  • Contribute to power market analysis activities, in collaboration with Shell internal teams or external consultants

  • Contribute to the development of in-house modelling capabilities, for business and/or strategic analyses

  • Quantify and communicate long-term power scenarios in collaboration with the Energy Team,

  • Provide specific support to project development teams on economic value of renewable energy

  • Liaise and communicate with various teams and stakeholders from Strategy, Trading, Project Development, Finance, etc.

What we need from you

  • Substantial professional experience, ideally in the field of power analysis and energy economics, either in a utility, energy company or consultancy

  • A keen interest in developing yourself in the field of power fundamental analysis

  • Knowledge/experience in systems analysis (e.g., long-term techno-economic assessment, optimization, modelling)

  • Experience in power market analysis, particularly on development of scenarios and/or dispatch analysis would be an advantage

  • Experience with PLEXOS or similar power market modelling software would be a great advantage

  • Good understanding of the commercial and technical attributes of generation and storage technologies (experience in project development is a plus)

  • Excellent conceptual and critical thinking skills

  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills, good communicator, good listener, ability to present complex results to different audiences, as well as understanding the needs from different stakeholders and translate them into analytical work

  • Self-starter, independent and proactive with a desire to challenge status quo and retain independence of thought

  • Effectively working across multiple time zones and projects under compressed timelines
