What is the Maintenance Mechanic responsible for?

What You’ll Be Working On
The Maintenance Mechanic responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • This role is responsible for troubleshooting and providing an immediate corrective maintenance response during equipment scheduled operating time, as well as responding to other equipment and facility-related issues.

  • Use of SAP and other computerized programs for inventory management and daily maintenance transactions.

  • Diligent and thorough record keeping.

  • Major duties include: preventative maintenance program, breakdown response, as well as working with production, engineering, and other technical resources to improve equipment uptime in a high-speed packaging environment, bulk blending process, bulk truck and rail sidings.

  • Housekeeping, maintain clean and orderly work areas.

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production cycle. Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment as made available.

  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on automated equipment.

  • Provide basic controls troubleshooting and programming.

  • Interact with contractors and vendors as required.

  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.

  • Perform simple non-structural welding.

  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines including high-speed packaging equipment such as bottle fillers, case erectors, palletizers, de-palletizers, drop packers, various types of conveyors, and other equipment. Bulk batch blending equipment, truck and rail car loading and offloading processes.

  • Operate and maintain large utility equipment such as air compressors, steam boilers, air driers, hot oil heaters, etc.

  • Diagnose, repair and rebuild varying pumps, motors, gearboxes and other rotating equipment.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test, and adjust.

  • Team with planning and engineering to develop preventive maintenance practices as required.

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and document all activities associated plant equipment.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Comply with safety regulations (Lock-Out Tag Out, ePTW, PPE requirements, etc.)

  • Diagnose and apply results using alignment tools for power-driven connections (i.e., reverse dial indicator and laser alignment tools).

  • Execute maintenance activities per direction of Maintenance Manager or delegate, may include the keeping of records, monitoring of maintenance costs, and production performance.

  • Work with OEE data to make improvements to process equipment based on poor performing equipment.

  • Electrical, and PLC experience a plus.

What schedule can I expect to work?

  • Shift work required based on position. Normal plant operating hours between 7 AM and 11 PM.

  • Extended hours and/ or weekend work may also be required.

The hourly rate for this position is $35.99/hr

What is needed in order to be considered for this role?

  • 433A-Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate of Qualification is mandatory.

  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in operator assisted preventative maintenance.

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for anyone other than current employer.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting ability.

  • Strong operations background in continuous/batch processes and high-speed packaging.

  • Strong computer literacy skills.

  • Willingness to continually learn and upgrade proficiency.

  • 5+ Years’ Experience with Production Processes and related equipment.

  • Proven technical competency in equipment design, optimization, and maintenance.

  • Proficient in Maintenance Practices – Work Order creation & closure, documenting activities, spare parts, schedule adherence, etc.

  • Use of Machine Shop Equipment – Lathe, Milling Machine, Welding, etc.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Self-managed team player,adept at working with teams in a production environment.

  • Good leadership skills.

  • Good oral and written communication.

  • Strong Computer Skills (Word, Excel, experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software, e.g., M-ERPS/ SAP).

  • Ability to juggle several conflicting priorities without compromising safety or quality.

  • Strong, proven sense of urgency.

  • Ability to work in a high-performance team-based environment that requires high degree autonomous decision making.

  • Familiar with spare parts organization and work order part issue procedures.

Communication Skills

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to write and follow ISO procedures as required.

  • Ability to function in a dynamic team-based work environment.

  • Ability to explain and communicate technical issues and procedures with larger, non-technical team.

Asset Skills and Knowledge

  • ISO processes, procedures and Quality management principles.

  • Shop Floor Accounting.

  • Use of Tools/Power Tools.

  • Operation of high-speed packaging equipment.

  • Knowledge and user familiarity with automated process control systems.

  • Computer literacy; familiarity with SAP is a definite asset.

  • Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level.

  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

  • Willing to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment.
