What’s the role?

Shell is looking for individuals to own the process unit to which they are assigned and will be responsible for the operational activities on their unit, the standard and housekeeping of the unit, process isolation and decontamination and the control of maintenance work via Permit to Work (PTW).

  • Display field leadership of personal and process safety, and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensures adherence and understanding of policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Apply Blue Zone Barrier Thinking to job planning and hazard recognition and mitigation development.
  • Be present on site for critical activities and Take 5 before every task.
  • Display learner mindset and operational discipline and thoughtfully comply to the work processes and procedure in execution of core operational duties and work processes including Ensure Safe Production (ESP), PTW, process isolation planning and execution, housekeeping etc.
  • Operate process units within the Production Area in accordance to Standard Operating Plan, Daily Operating Instructions, Production Team Lead’s instructions and supervision.
  • Operate the plant in compliance to site Operating Procedures, Standing Instructions and site Health, Safety, Security, Environment procedures.
  • Optimize plant operations within the Design-Operating-Window and the Integrity-Operating-Window.
  • Perform proactive monitoring of the plant and equipment in accordance with ESP and unit specific requirements (as per Production Unit Tier 3 procedure and training workbooks).
  • Contribute to keep process materials records and to maintain good housekeeping practices on process plant and in console areas.
  • Safely execute minor maintenance activities (MMBO)
  • Perform other related duties as required and instructed by senior colleagues.
  • Manage plant upsets and abnormal conditions and subsequent troubleshooting including incidents/plant emergencies and subsequent follow-up.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting of more challenging/abnormal issue/high risk task (e.g. valve passing, Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC)/test point or drain line choked etc.) and seek assistance when required.
  • Proactively support peers from own/other clusters to deliver shift plan when need arises after completing of own duty.
  • Report unsafe acts/conditions, near misses and incidents.
  • Support shift 5 to understand the root cause of Product Quality/Design Operating Window/upset incident occur within the shift to capture and facilitate learning across shift.
  • To deliver the shift plan and steer/targets safely and timely for their unit, in addition to keep unit operations safe and optimized in energy, margin and PQ.
    • If an Authorized Gas Safety Tester (AGST), he/she conducts PTW issuance on unit, including oversight of critical activities, checks for interface across different field positions, i.e. potential incompatible activities. If not an AGST, he/she ensures that he/she has knowledge of all permits issued on their unit.
    • Maintain rigor of work/procedure execution by having pre-execution discussion to surface any concern and remind each other about necessary precautions, and timely signoffs of procedures.
  • Provide unit orientation and practical hands-on skill training to junior PTs/ PT new to the unit on field execution.
  • Provide clear and concise information in shift report and a thorough handover to other shifts is conducted in accordance with ESP requirements for situational awareness, proper follow-up and work planning.
  • Raise GSAP notifications for defects/maintenance issues with preliminary assessment of work order prioritization for the GSAP notification done based on SAP Business Warehouse (BWP) matrix.
  • Create or review process isolation job packs (including de-oiling and decon) and support the execution of process isolation safely and timely to meet Operation Maintenance Coordinator (OMC)’s plan schedule, prepare and approve PTW, and assist in coordination of daily maintenance planning on their unit.
  • For senior PTs, the incumbent is a practicing full AGST and will play an active role in helping to set process isolation, PTW, ESP and equipment care standards on their unit.
  • Implement assigned operational controls identified in the HSSE Management Systems, Bowties, Hazard sheets and HRAs.
  • Monitor the performance of process equipment in his/her process area and make corrections and normalize deviations from plan or escalate to Production Team Lead (PTL).
  • Start up and shut-down any section of the process plant in accordance with laid-down procedures and as directed by PTL.
  • Contribute in the preparation of shutdown lists, review of P&I (PEFS) diagram checks and produce sketches for process isolation job packs or plant changes.
  • Inspects process equipment after completion of maintenance work, including independent check of internals of all equipment before box-up.

What we need from you

  • Nitec/Higher Nitec in Chemical Process Technology or Diploma in Chemical Engineering / Chemical & Green Technology / Clean Energy;
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in chemical processing or oil refining / utilities e.g. steam boilers and Cogeneration for Process Units;
  • Good understanding of Ethylene Cracker HoA (Higher Olefins and Aromatic, C4+) or Utility (Boiler, Cogen, Wastewater Treatment etc.) is an advantage.
  • Able to operate DCS independently;
  • WSQ Qualifications in workplace safety and health for process plants/manufacturing sites
  • Mandatory HSSE competency requirement specifically on ACSSEW (confined space safety assessor);
  • Qualified as a gas tester and/or confined space assessor;
  • Flexible to perform both shift work and day-work, as well as overtime, when the need arises;
  • Should possess the necessary pre-requisites to perform as an Auxiliary Fire Fighter (AFF) who may be called upon to participate in auxiliary firefighting training or in the event of emergency situations.
  • Should also be prepared to be qualified as a First Aider.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, good technical and process aptitude, and ability to remain calm and composed during emergency to make informed and risk-balanced decision are required.
