Senior Experience Designer

Slalom is eager for a qualified Senior Experience Designer to join our XD practice. We’re looking for a well-rounded, user researcher, visual designer, content strategist, and human-first thinker. The XD team works across multiple disciplines, industries, and accounts, as well as with numerous other Slalom capabilities. Our people need to quickly gain an understanding of clients’ businesses, forge meaningful connections, and show credibility with strong expertise. This role is at the Consultant or Senior Consultant level

Slalom consultants (of all levels) help organizations redefine what’s possible and give shape to the future. We focus on high-impact projects—meeting our partners where they are and helping them to deliver results. Our teams go beyond the expected, to help clients move confidently through ambiguity and drive transformative outcomes.

This role must be located within a commutable distance to our downtown Chicago office.

What You’ll Do

  • Help XD continually define strategic offerings and upskill team members
  • Develop a clear understanding of how XD fits within the broader Chicago Business Advisory Services (BAS) operating model, and, organizational solution portfolio
  • Be able to articulate your design process, and develop a variety of creative resources, such as: storyboards, logos and taglines, messaging frameworks, visual learning aids, marketing slick sheets, executive presentations, and research summaries
  • Collaborate with clients and Slalom leaders to design solutions in a variety of environments—considering things like communication mode or mechanism, tool type, user preferences, accessibility, and visual clarity/resolution
  • Help to scope creative projects and build effective delivery teams
  • Show executive presence and polish in guiding clients through XD methodologies, recommendations, and best practices
  • Work with sales and leadership teams to identify new project opportunities, develop pursuit resources, and craft pitches and presentations
  • Adopt an agile mindset, and be able to flex between projects, sales pursuits, and practice-building activities
  • Regularly showcase (and apply) strategic communication, storytelling, research, and synthesis skills

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience, particularly with a diverse history in visual/presentation design, storytelling, content development, communications, marketing, user research, experience strategy, and/or brand development
  • Consulting or agency background (preferred), exposure to leading project teams and pursuits
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to voice design decisions and recommendations
  • Proficiency in design and collaboration tools, such as: Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Microsoft Office, Keynote, Miro, and Mural
  • Breadth of experience along the Experience Design spectrum, with the ability to wear multiple hats and regularly shift focus between:
    • Visual/graphic design—create high-quality images, branding, marketing collateral, infographics, and learning visuals
    • Research/ideation—facilitate interactive design workshops, interviews, and focus groups to uncover needs and challenges, aggregate, and move forward with meaningful themes and insights
    • Communications/content strategy—produce and iterate on strategic presentations, organizational messaging, marketing resources, web content development, communications plans, and instructional materials
    • Sales pursuits and practice growth
  • Interest in designing and using applicable emerging technologies
  • A human-first mentality, with a passion for learning
  • Your own unique perspective to solving difficult problems and creating meaningful solutions for a diverse pool of people
