Job Description:

The Sterile processing course at Springfield Technical Community Colleges is a credit-bearing offering in the evening and is offered during the evening three times per year (fall, spring, and summer). The successful candidate will need to have the ability to teach the Sterile Processing to meet CBSPD and IASCHMM Standards. This includes, but is not limited to Central Service overview, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, contamination control sterilization, storage and distribution are some of the subject materials needed. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible to prepare students for the National exam.

Instructors in the Sterile Processing program provide students with the knowledge, technical skills, computer information processing skills, and work habits necessary for entry-level employment as a Sterile Processing Employee.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing hands-on classroom instruction.
  • Maintaining and updating course syllabi; assisting in the development of new curricula.
  • Cover all material in depth and scope as described in syllabi.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.
  • Preparing and utilizing approved lesson plans.
  • Evaluating student competence based on program philosophy and objectives.
  • Preparing student progress reports and grade reports; maintaining accurate and timely attendance records.
  • Review and ensure the STCC program meets all CBSPD and IASCHMM standards.
  • Attending faculty meetings.
  • Follow the school academic policies at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Personnel:

  • Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.

Facilities:

  • Ensures utilization and proper use of learning equipment and materials

Instructors work on a contract/part-time basis and are responsible for facilitating video presentations, instructor lectures, skills demonstrations, testing/grading students, answering questions, and completing post-course rosters/paperwork.


Requirements:

  • Current CSPT Certification
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the field of Central Sterile Processing
  • Ability to teach in front 10-24 students
  • Meets all college CORI, SORI, and national background checks requirements
  • Meets all Immunization and Vaccination Requirements, Including COVID-19
  • Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification
  • Friendly and outgoing attitude to keep students engaged
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships
  • Motivated, self-starter
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work flow
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate in Science or Bachelor in Science degree
  • Previous college level teaching experience
  • Supervisory/management training experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, WebEx or Zoom, and Blackboard
