Job Description:

The Youth Academy Instructor will provide face-to-face student-centered instruction in STEAM related activities. All instructors create weekly and multi-week unit plans with prepared student objectives and timed agendas following best practices for instruction and assessments.

The program seeks to guide learners developing knowledge, skills, and leading to a desire to enter college or careers in STEAM related educational programs.

The instructor will create a safe and engaging learning environment and support students with developmentally appropriate activities.

Reports to: Director of Instruction & Assessment


  • Provides high quality instruction related to increasing knowledge and skills in STEAM related activities and provide instruction across multiple age and grade levels (ages 5-14)
  • Works closely with the Education & Career Advisor to support student retention in the program.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional methods, techniques and on campus/online resources.
  • Prepares thematic units and associated lesson plans in alignment with STEAM Standards for Youth Education and using a contextualized and integrated curriculum.
  • Ability to provide content instruction in STEAM, using both technology and online tools along with hands-on experiential projects.
  • Using unit plans and lesson plans prepares Google Classroom, instructional videos, models, labs, class websites, links, challenges, games, projects for face-to-face instruction demonstrating a proficiency of best practices for youth learners.
  • Collaborates with Education & Career Advisor, Program Specialist and other staff to maintain student records and data required to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements.
  • Participates in program planning, curriculum development, and professional development to provide continuous program improvement.
  • Attends meetings, participates in programs, projects and other duties as needed



  • A Bachelors' degree is required, in Education, STEAM, psychology, social work or related areas of study (if you do not meet this requirement, please describe your experience and qualifications in your letter of interest).

  • Positive attitude, patience, flexible and demonstrates the ability to explain concepts to all learners
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with LMS tools, using technology for content delivery across the STEAM curriculum.
  • Proficiency utilizing the Google and/or Microsoft Office Suite of applications (spreadsheets, word processing, slide presentations, and image and publication tools)


  • At least two (2) years' experience working with a diverse population.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred;
  • Strong leadership skills

Working environment inside classroom/office space. Normally seated, standing or walking at will. Light physical exertion.

Additional Information:

Salary: $50.00 per hour depending on experience. 12 week session of up to 18.5 hours per week (Monday through Thursday 4pm - 8pm, evening) in line with the Workforce Development academic calendar, available funding, and need of the department. Additional meetings as needed
