Job Description:

Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for a full-time position as a Medical Assistant IV (Nursing Assistant IV). The position entails both clerical and clinical responsibilities. The clerical responsibilities include: managing medical records, scheduling patient appointments, managing healthcare software applications, having students complete necessary documentation, communicating with outside medical offices, communicating with students and clinical faculty regarding medical records required for their particular program, processing confidential records including medical records and intake of criminal background checks. Working collaboratively with the college's health compliance team for seamless transfer of healthcare documents needed for student clearance to participate in clinical internships.

Clinical components of the position, while a provider is on campus, include: preparing patients for the clinician, gathering a medical history, performing medical testing within scope of practice, screening, administering injections/TB Plants, and providing health related presentations to groups on campus.

Professional communication, collaboration and teamwork are essential skills of this position. Teamwork is endemic to a system in which all employees are working for the good of a goal, who have a common aim, and who work together to achieve that aim.

SAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation the Medical Assistant IV (Nursing Assistant IV) will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

Clerical:

  • Opening, closing, and staffing of Health and Wellness Center.
  • Scheduling patient/client appointments, sending appointment reminders, follow-up on missed appointments.
  • Maintain intake of student records, including, but not limited to: immunization, vaccinations, physical exams, technical standards, CPR, N95 mask Fitting.
  • Coordinate transfer of student health forms from colleges CRM to Image now for reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain medical records: receive records submitted in person, by mail and electronically, transfer of essential information to our electronic medical records (EMR), and retrieval of records from EMR/archives.
  • Log all office encounters.
  • Return all voicemails and email inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • Regular correspondence with students, employees, and off-site facilities.
  • Regular update of department website content.
  • Compile statistical clinic information/reports.
  • Utilize Business Objects for Colleague Health reporting.
  • Ability to utilize MIIS for data entry of information.
  • Manage student email notices: monthly bcc-reminders, daily responses and notices of records remaining.
  • Manage healthcare software and scheduling software.
  • Manage student and employee communication through various platforms, such as; Google Suite, and ChatNow.

Clinical:

  • Able to perform all job functions of the Nursing Assistant position.
  • On campus patient/client intake, recording vital signs, initial evaluation, and basic emergency treatment.
  • Assist with medical screening/testing.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utility rooms, treatment areas, and common areas.
  • Coordination of student/clinical faculty health record requirements based on state/federal law, college policy, and externship site requirements.
  • Attend periodic relevant meetings and continuing medical education/training as directed.
  • Ensure the complete evacuation of clients/patients from campus clinic in case of fire or fire drills by leading, carrying and/or counting clients/patients.


Requirements:

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma Required, Associate's degree preferred.
  • Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, paraprofessional or technical experience in a hospital, clinic or medical facility, the major duties of which included providing nursing care, medical and/or paramedical services to clients/patients, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
    • Substitutions:
      • I. A Bachelor's degree or higher with a major in medical technology, medical assistant, nursing, nurse education or medicine may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience.* *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • Registration as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants, or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certified by either the American Medical Technologists or the American Registry of Medical Assistants.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS).
  • Proficient in medical terminology and able to discuss medical care/documentation with students, employees, and other health care providers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records in accordance to HIPAA, FERPA, state law and college policies.
  • Proficiency in electronic record keeping, scanning, e-mail, and patient/medical/ office communication.
  • A strong working knowledge of common computer systems (Word, Excel, PPT, G-mail).
  • Professional in demeanor and appearance, and in interacting with patients, students, and staff.
  • A self-starter, motivated, organized, possess excellent communication skills, and prioritizes what the immediate clinic needs are at any given time.
  • Able to maintain a smooth flow of patients through the clinic.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population, to establish rapport and deal tactfully with persons from varied backgrounds.
  • Ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals.
  • Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting medical records, Ability to gather information by examining records and documents.
  • Ability to understand, apply and explain the laws, rules, regulations, procedures, guidelines and policies governing assigned unit activities.
  • Initial and continued employment dependent upon meeting CORI/SORI and medical requirements..
