Job Description: The STEM Student Center peer will help students accessing available resources, find a rewarding career pathway, and navigate their way to graduation. The STEM Student Center peer collaborates with undergraduate students and the STEM Center staff to facilitate and support student engagement and retention of students majoring in STEM disciplines at STCC. A STEM Student Center peer provides support to STEM Student Center students. This person is responsible for helping our students feel supported and valued. The STEM Student Center peer facilitates events, services, and workshops to engage STEM students. Job Responsibilities: - Assist with outreach programming to promote the division and the grant.
- Conduct weekly emails and phone outreach to students to keep all stakeholders abreast of STEM activities.
- Develop and implement appropriate workshops and programming when necessary.
- Develop an understanding of each department's key faculty/staff and its career-related concerns and needs.
- Front desk coverage, answering phones, and relaying messages.
- Support student success and assist new students.
- Promote campus involvement and events.
- Collaborate with other campus departments to promote STEM awareness and access to resources and services.
- Serve as a resource for tutoring, coaching, financial literacy, mental health supportive services, and other college life challenges.
- Monthly newsletter.
- Assist with marketing the STEM center.
Requirements: - Associate's degree or some college with equivalent work experience required.
- Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills to support interactions with diverse academic and non-academic audiences.
- Good understanding of educational learning theory, as well as tutoring theory and practice. Good understanding of and experience with culturally responsive teaching.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A commitment to working in a culturally diverse, urban community college and fostering inclusiveness, equity and diversity within the academic setting.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college.
